Abeille, agro-ecological initiatives for food and the territories

The Abeille project, funded by the French and Carasso foundations, has a twofold objective: to produce knowledge on how agro-ecological and food issues are taken into account at the territorial level and to network territorial actors and researchers concerned by this issue.

Start date

01/10/2015

End date

31/10/2018

Objectives

The project aims to inculcate a culture of agro-ecology within territories. It is built around an action-research mechanism that links studies and exchanges between partners around their projects. It constitutes an extramural ‘laboratory of ideas’, whose mission is to co-produce operational indicators for the implementation of agro-ecological territorial actions.

Studies and research are focused on the observation and analysis of innovative initiatives implemented in the territories under study in order to produce useful actionable knowledge: characterization of farms in the studied territories, modes of governance with reference to the initiatives of the various partners, tools and mechanisms used to implement learning processes, analysis of the perception of the inhabitants about proximity agriculture and its products, etc.

The partnership between territorial actors and researchers takes the form of two circles:

  • the first circle consists of 4 co-promoter partners of the project and their main representatives, which meets regularly during the three years of the project;
  • the second circle, consisting of a panel of agricultural and non-agricultural actors, makes it possible, starting in the second year of the project, to widen the scope of exchanges and debates. In particular, it includes partners engaged in a reflection on the development of agriculture in territories of different scales.
